Bike Path & the 2 bike pile-up

While it was NOT the 90F predicted by the local weathermen, it was perfect for taking a bike ride. After Bible Class/Church/Kid's Choir we went home and changed, let the dog out, put him back in, loaded the bikes in the truck, grabbed our picnic lunch and headed to Fairhaven. We stopped at Fort Phoenix and enjoyed our picnic lunch then went over the parking lot at the beginning of the Phoenix Bike Path. The trail is 3.1 mi each way, so a total of 6.2.

We hadn't ridden here before and were pleased with our choice. It's a great little path when you have kids - namely Harry - who can't do anything much bigger. The poor kid has outgrown his little bike, and not quite steady enough on Skip's bike yet (Skip has a slightly bigger one he'll use as soon as Harry can be comfortable on the bigger one.) Watching him ride is like watching a spin class. The little legs go round and round, faster & faster, but he doesn't get anywhere. Well, he gets somewhere, but it takes 2x the pedaling and 2x the time. The trail begins in a commerical/residental area of town and then the majority is pretty scenic, with lots of benches for resting (we didn't but ....) streams and gentle curves. 

 Along the way we saw a rabbit eating his lunch and some swans in the creek that feeds into the Nasketucket River.

The only "downfall" was the two-bike pile up involving Harry, who for someone unknown reason just slammed on his breaks in front of me. I then proceeded, in my attempt to get around him, to catch the area right behind his left ear with my right handlebar & shifter before knocking him over. Poor guy - he got whacked good. He cried a bit and kept saying it hurt, but perked right up when I reminded him that we'd be getting ice cream as soon as we finished our trek.   In addition, we let the boys play at a town park just before we finished our return trip.  I didn't even know it existed but it was a nice little place. Lots of playground equipment including these funky things where you stand and with your body make yourself spin around. It takes awhile to get the knack of it, but Skip figured it out pretty quickly. Harry not so much - so Mike decided to give him some help. They both ended up dizzy :)

We agreed it was a great day and we're hoping to do another one before the boat goes in the water...at which time our weekends will be spent doing what we enjoy most!
